MELISSA'S BIG BREAK
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs at the Stockport Plaza
During the first act, lead actress Melissa D'Arcy, who has appeared in BBC hospital drama Holby City, ended up in casualty after breaking her left wrist in a nasty fall. In true theatre tradition, the 23-year-old insisted the show must go on, finishing her performance before heading for Stepping Hill Hospital.
Melissa was hurrying backstage on Wednesday when her costume caught on a door handle and she fell backwards. In an attempt to break her fall she put her hand out and it hit the wall, breaking a bone in her wrist.
"I was in terrible pain, in tears and close to being sick," she said, "but fortunately having to carry on distracted me. I think my adrenalin kept me going as I knew I had to get on stage. Everyone was really supportive."
Following the accident, a St John Ambulance worker went backstage to bind Melissa's wrist. During the intervals she had to sit with it in ice.
Actress and singer Melissa, from Ipswich, completed the second act gingerly holding her wrist before being whisked to hospital in costume. She got a few strange looks from waiting patients in the accident and emergency department. Nurses even brought some young patients to her to "cheer them up".
Denise Welch, who is playing the wicked queen, said: "I take my crown off to her she is a real trouper."
